Our Love Story
A journey guided by faith and filled with grace
How We Met
2022 - 12 October 2024
It was a beautiful sunny morning at St Gerard's Parish in Greystone Park. Jacob had been invited to speak about drug and alcohol addiction, a cause he is deeply passionate about. As he shared his journey with courage and sincerity, a connection was sparked...
After church we spoke and exchanged contacts, with a small twist: Jacob gave his personal number instead of the Pamumvuri hotline number. That small "trickster move" would turn out to be the start of many conversations. Over the next two years we stayed in touch, building a friendship that would grow into something deeper. Our first official date was at Victor Kunonga's show at Chop Chop.
Jacob eventually expressed his intentions with honesty: "Before I officially ask you out, I need to know if you are also invested, because I feel in the depths of my heart that you are the girl for me." A few dates later, while walking through the Botanical Gardens, the answer finally came. On the 12th of October 2024, our official courtship began.
Courtship & Engagement
12 October 2024 - 27 April 2025
Courtship was a beautiful season filled with laughter, adventure, and growth. We often laugh about the things we did for love—late nights that stretched past curfew, spontaneous outings, and many visits to church together...
As part of preparing for marriage the Catholic way, we each spoke with our parish priests for guidance. At St Canisius Parish, Father Mapfumo connected us with the Chigwambas, an experienced couple who walked with us, prayed with us, and shared wisdom that helped shape our understanding of marriage.
The day of our engagement was full of unexpected drama. Earlier that day we had been stopped by the police over a missing fire extinguisher and reflective triangles. Despite a small disagreement along the way, the day continued with a visit to Lion Park. And then, on the evening of 27 April 2025, after all the unexpected twists of the day, Jacob proposed—a moment filled with surprise, laughter, and tears all at once.
Roora & Court Wedding
3 January 2026 - 23 January 2026
On the 3rd of January, the cows came home!! The day began with a heavy downpour that threatened to disrupt our plans. But in our culture, rain is often seen as a sign of blessing and divine approval...
Our families gathered together in celebration as traditions were honoured, introductions were made, and joyful ululations filled the air. Our traditional wedding was everything we had hoped for—beautiful, meaningful, and deeply rooted in culture.
Our court wedding came with its own share of drama. We had been scheduled to appear at court at 6 a.m. on Friday, the 23rd of January 2026. While Jacob is naturally an early riser, mornings are not Rachel's favourite time of day. A few days before the ceremony, a minor accident caused unexpected pain and frustration, even preventing Rachel from getting her hair done as planned. Despite all of this, the day came together beautifully. Standing together in court, we said our vows for the first time and officially began our marriage—a simple but powerful moment that marked the start of a new chapter.
